Tin Can DIY Wedding Ideas | DIY Wedding Photographer
January 30, 2013I have a thing for seeing value in stuff…all kinds of stuff. You know…like old nasty china cabinets on the side of the road…with a “FREE” sign on it. It was dark, ugly and totally 80′s. I knew that if I could just get my hands on it…and convince my husband to pick it up for me in his truck…there was something beautiful under all that nastiness. I slapped some white paint on it, put a clothes rod inside and boom…it was a new closet for my baby (who is 9 now!!). We still have this piece and are always get asked where we got it! Uh….on the side of the road??? :)
Anyway!! Back to DIY Stuff! I love the idea of saving your tin cans (from taco soup I have about 6 cans!) and then turning them into something beautiful…for your wedding or for your house!
Here are some of my very favorite Tin Can DIY Wedding Ideas that I found on Pinterest!
1. DIY Hanging Tin Can Back Drop: Using the same flower to fill each can unifies the look and makes it look put together…even though these were literally saved from going into the garbage can. They look so elevated and sparkly in these images!

6. Stripped Painted Tin Can: All you need to do to get this graphic and modern look to your tin cans is wrap a piece of painter’s tape around the can before painting it. You could get different widths of tape for variety.

7. Bedazzled Tin Cans: I love the idea of playing up the sparkle of these tin cans by adding some pearls and jewels to the outside of these. Add a little Glam to your DIY.

8. Rope covered Tin Cans: Here’s a Nautical twist to the TIn Can vase….and it couldnt be more easy, just wrap rope around it and secure with hot glue. I love the way it looks with plain white hydrangeas.

Rustic Outdoor Engagement Session | Hurley is a good pup
January 9, 2013Over the course of the almost 10 years that I’ve been photographing weddings (sheesh…am I even old enough for that???)…I’ve grown to be a dog lover. yep. I said it. If you would have told me that 5 years ago…I wouldn’t have believed it! I think part of it…is that I’ve really seen the personalities of dogs and I love relationships…even those between humans and animals.
I had such a fun time with Kelsey and Andrew…and Hurley. Hurley was such a well behaved dog…he sniffed, explored and checked things out while we shot…then came in for his close up. My favorite part was when Andrew snuggled up with Kelsey, Hurley got jealous!! It was hilarious. He was sweet and I so enjoyed shooting him!! Oh…and Kelsey and Andrew too. :) I can’t wait for their wedding at Hidden Meadows in June!
DIY Tip!! I love these numbers! You can get these at Hobby Lobby and paint them whatever color you want. I did some E’s for my house and guess what color I painted them. :)
I love that Hurley was ready for this shot. It was like he just looked at me and said…Shoot it!!

Somebody that I used to know | Starring, directed by and produced by: Estelle Eylander
January 3, 2013One of my favorite things to do as a kid was video tape people…with one of those huge, over the shoulder video machines, and at all the family events…this would be my job. We got it when I was in the 8th grade and I was hooked! Whenever I had friends over…we brought it out and went to town.
Now with my fabulous Canon Mark 11, I can capture video that is super high quality…but it doesn’t have to be at a wedding….it can just be at home being dorky. Its a fun way to capture families, or kiddos being their crazy selves. If you haven’t seen our other family music video, view it below!
As Estelle was directing me through the shoot, her creativity seriously amazed me. She knew just what shots she wanted and scenes she wanted to include. I love that she thought of using her cat and chickens! So funny! My heart was so full of joy as I watched her blossom and find something that she loves to do and is talented at. I so enjoyed the hrs it took to edit this music video to get it to what her creative direction was.
